Rick Schneider

Rick Stone Base began as a humble dream in the heart of New York City’s Diamond District, a legacy forged by passion, integrity, and a deep reverence for the earth’s natural treasures. Founded in 1980 by Rick  Schneider, a first-generation immigrant with a jeweler’s eye and a miner’s grit, In the 1990s, Rick relocated the business to Florida, drawn by the state’s vibrant jewelry market, favorable climate for operations, and growing demand for premium gemstones. Operating as a sole proprietorship, the company has remained a focused, owner-driven enterprise without a large formal team, allowing Rick to maintain direct involvement in sourcing, selection, and customer relationships.

The Founding Vision

Rick Schneider arrived in New York with little more than a suitcase and a vision to bring the world’s finest gemstones to the bustling jewelry trade. Starting with a modest 10-square-foot stall on 47th Street, he leveraged his experience sourcing rough stones from Brazil, Singapore, Thailand and India during his travels. His philosophy was simple: offer only natural, untreated gemstones—free from the artificial enhancements flooding the market. With a single microscope and a ledger, Rick built a reputation for authenticity, catering to local jewelers with hand-picked amethysts and citrines.

Rick Stone Base operates in the raw gemstone and fine jewelry sector, focusing on B2C and wholesale sales of natural and select lab-grown gemstones. The core business model revolves around direct sales of raw (rough) and polished gemstones, with added value through custom services.

Rick Stone Base specializes in rare and unusual raw gemstones, including:

  • Color-Change Alexandrite — Dramatic shifts from pink in daylight to raspberry under incandescent light.
  • Paraiba Tourmaline — Electric neon blue-green with copper inclusions, highly sought after due to limited supply.
  • Tsavorite Garnet — Vivid green with exceptional transparency and durability.
  • Other offerings: Sapphires, emeralds, rubies, amethysts, tanzanites, organic gemstones, and collector-grade rarities.

Sizes range from small accent stones (0.5+ carats) to large specimens (50+ carats). All stones are ethically sourced “from the mouth of the mine,” often accompanied by GIA/AGS certifications detailing origin, treatments, and quality.

Rick Stone Base stands out as a personal, passion-driven business where every gem tells a story—curated by someone who’s been captivated by them for decades. Whether you’re a collector seeking rarities or someone designing a custom piece, RSB delivers authenticity and expertise directly from Rick Schneider himself.
